Proven Leadership - Experience - Vision

Bill cares about our community.

Bill wants to make sure that Morristown and Hamblen County continue to prosper. He grew up here. He and his wife, Gale, raised their three daughters in Morristown, and their three grandsons are growing up here. Bill’s passion for his hometown runs deep. He has volunteered to serve several community organizations for more than 20 years. He has coached youth football, basketball and soccer teams. He has chaired the Morristown-Hamblen Library Board the past 12 years and was instrumental in getting a $1.1 million renovation completed in 2009. He also organized the Lake Side Concert Series at Cherokee Park from 2004-2007, and presently serves on the Rose Center Board of Directors.

Bill is prepared to lead.

Bill has faithfully served the citizens of Hamblen County as County Trustee for the past 16 years.  He manages more than $100 million that come to the county government each year. He has used a conservative approach to projecting revenues for 16 County budgets and has  prepared financing plans for school building programs and road projects.  Under his leadership, the County has generated millions in investment income that has helped keep property taxes low.

Much of Bill’s focus has been on improving county services. The Hamblen County Trustee’s office was one of the first to implement the new Property Tax Freeze for Seniors (2007). It has grown the Property Tax Relief Program for seniors and the disabled to more than 1,000 participants.  In 1997, he worked with the County Commission to open the county government office in the College Square Mall where citizens can pay property taxes, renew automobile tags, titles and driver’s licenses.  His office was one of the first trustee offices to accept tax payments over the internet (2002).  Bill also coordinated the construction of the new courthouse addition and the design and implementation of the first countywide computer network (2000).

Bill has a vision that involves teamwork.

Bill believes local government is most effective when it focuses on improving services by working cooperatively with all segments of the community. He is committed to building strong relationships with the County Commission, the Board of Education and Morristown City Council as well as business and industry.  It is important that our County government leaders have the experience and background necessary to help generate jobs, provide a quality education for our children, and produce the quality of life necessary to make Hamblen County a place where our children and grandchildren want to live, work and play.
